The
Office of the General Counsel represents the System as a corporate entity in legal matters. The office
supports the mission of the University by handling all legal matters generated by the activities of the University,
including its schools, departments, operating units and subsidiaries, and by initiating action to forestall problems and
manage risks. All matters requiring legal advice or legal action should be referred to the Office of the General Counsel.

The OGC's clients are the Board of Regents and the employees of the University of Houston System acting in their
official capacities. The Chancellor and other designated officials may request legal assistance for official business
directly from our office. Other offices are asked to route their requests through the chain of command at their
respective institutions and agencies.

Some of the legal material found on this page is abridged from laws, regulations, court decisions, etc. Legal opinions
are intended ONLY as general legal advice to the University of Houston System, its officers and employees.
